Side-Power rates the performance of their thrusters very conservatively. The numbers are based on actual installations rather than laboratory bench tests. Side-Power produces thrusters with three different propulsion systems:

Features:

• Single propeller thrusters are the most energy efficient and compact. They are used in narrow bows and in smaller boats
• Twin propellers can provide more thrust in a small tunnel diameter, but sacrifice a small percentage of efficiency. They are used in midrange thrusters
• Twin, counter-rotating propellers are used in the largest systems where, due to the large size of the vessel, thrust provided (power), rather than efficiency, is the most important considerationSide-Power thrusters feature:
• Purpose-built electric motors designed for maximum real-life performance, at a realistic voltage, with minimal power consumption and low weight
• Gear housing maintains positive pressure to prevent water infiltration
• "Plug and Go" - all electrical components come completely set up - just connect the thruster to the battery
• Sophisticated electronic control circuitry prevents damage due to overheating or a sudden change in drive direction; design includes a number of well thought out electrical protection features specific to the marine environment
